About Ulrik Vachet Rasmussen

Executive. Researcher. Author. Entrepreneur.

Throughout my career I have moved between executive leadership and independent research. As an executive I have worked with growth, turnarounds, strategy, software, manufacturing, satellite communications, drones and international business. As an author I study management, economics, political philosophy, historical demography and the long-term development of civilizations.

Although these subjects may appear unrelated, they are united by one common principle: understanding complex systems through evidence rather than ideology.

Professional Background

For more than twenty years I have served as CEO, CCO and CFO in companies ranging from technology start-ups to international organizations with operations across Europe. My work has included growth strategy, fundraising, turnarounds, acquisitions, international expansion, software, manufacturing, retail and board advisory.

Whether leading a five-person start-up or a business with hundreds of employees, the objective has remained the same: create sustainable growth through disciplined execution, measurable performance and fact-based decision making.

My career began in finance and business analysis at TDC and Avery Dennison, where I developed a strong analytical foundation in budgeting, business controlling and operational performance. From there I moved into European executive leadership at CCL Europe, taking responsibility for finance, IT, strategy and acquisitions across multiple countries.

Later I served as CEO, CFO and COO within the AudioNord / Hi-Fi Klubben group, helping expand the business from a Scandinavian retailer into a broader European organisation. Since then I have led turnarounds, technology companies and venture-backed start-ups including Optimizer, WedBox, GateHouse Group, Scandinavian Drone Solutions and, most recently, Quantum Cyber Analytics.

Across these roles the industries have changed—manufacturing, retail, satellite communications, SaaS, drones and cybersecurity—but the underlying challenge has remained remarkably similar: understand reality, build a coherent strategy, organise people effectively and execute with discipline.

Research Interests

Management

Evidence-based leadership, strategy, organizational design and execution.

History & Civilizations

Long-term development of societies, institutions and empires.

Political Philosophy

Power, governance, liberty and the recurring patterns of human behaviour.

Historical Demography

Quantitative reconstruction of ancient populations and economic history.

Guiding Principles

Facts before Opinions

Decisions should be grounded in measurable evidence. Data, observation and careful analysis are preferable to assumptions and intuition alone.

Evidence before Ideology

I prefer following the evidence wherever it leads rather than beginning with a predetermined conclusion. This principle underlies both my consulting work and my research.

Long-Term Thinking

Many business problems arise from focusing on the next quarter rather than the next decade. Sustainable organisations are built through patient strategy and consistent execution.

Practical Results

The purpose of management theory is implementation. Good ideas only matter when they improve organisations, create value and help people perform better.

Intellectual Curiosity

Progress often comes from connecting disciplines. Economics, management, history and philosophy each illuminate different aspects of the same human problems.
